Bridging Dries Van Noten’s avant-garde Belgian legacy with the festive materiality of Indian confectionery, this Spring-Summer 2025 concept reinterprets the traditional dhoti as a fluid, skirt-pant hybrid. The design captures the sugar-coated vibrancy of Indian sweet, celebrating their stories, textures, and the delicate craftsmanship of vark (silver foil) through a contemporary, high-fashion lens.
Material & Color Exploration
The collection’s tactile identity centers on hand-dyed burnt-orange organza and magenta pink chiffon, chosen for their structural "crunch" and translucent depth. To mimic the organic surfaces of desserts, a "boil-and-tie" technique using shells and beads was applied to "Jimmy Choo" fabric, creating a permanent, sculptural ripple. This play of light and form is punctuated by silver foil appliqué, referencing the metallic shimmer of traditional sweets against a backdrop of deeply saturated, hand-pigmented textiles.
